First off, I wanted to say that I don’t watch the show. My mother was visiting and wanted to see the final three celebrities dance, so I watched it with her. I watched in surprise as a stocky little gymnast basically did a gymnastics routing on the dance floor. OK, I admit she’s a good gymnast…but a dancer? I think the judges themselves forgot what they were supposed to be judging her on. Shawn looked awkward every time she tried to be sexy or do a real dance move. She shines when she is doing what she already won an Olympic gold medal doing. Does that mean she should go on a dance show and win the trophy? Well, I didn’t think so. I couldn’t help think that she looked like a boy in a dress. Who do I think should have won? Unfortunately, I don’t have an opinion, since I didn’t watch the show enough to have a favorite (which is a good thing, or I would have been quite upset with the result). Of all three that actually had the grace and showed that on the dance floor, I would have to say Melissa (um, when is a contestant from the Bachelor considered being a celebrity??). Even one of the judges said she had a body for dancing, and he was right. Gilles was gorgeous, but I think he had the wrong partner. She made sure she was in the spotlight every time they danced, so it was hard to pay attention to him. He didn’t seem to do much as she flung her arms and legs around.

But back to Shawn. I saw her dance three times in the last two nights, and none of those times did I feel impressed with her dancing ability. The final dance, at least she did DANCE, but there was no grace. She tried to be sexy, but I felt she was lacking. I don’t doubt she has grown during her 11 weeks on the show, and it’s quite scary to think how she looked in the beginning of the season. How did she make the cut that long? Did she do her gymnast routine and win over the audience? That’s the only thing I can think of. She must have made everyone in America forget the theme of the show, even if it’s in the title. Again, I don’t doubt that Shawn is a great gymnast, and I love the sport…but that’s not what the show is supposed to be about!!
